Before, people were content with watching television or listening to the radio as their main means of entertainment. Today’s generation thirst for more. What they want is a better alternative for entertainment, and the one that involves interaction. Thanks to the presence of video game systems, interactive entertainment is now made possible.

If you are an 80’s baby, then you’ll probably be familiar with how to play Super Nintendo. Crash Bandicoot, Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers. These are just some of the more familiar games that you played with your Nintendo during your younger years. The much younger generation of today is fond of their Sony PlayStation, X-Box Gaming Console, PSP and Nintendo Wii.

What is the real difference between the video game systems of yesterday and the present time? Probably the best answer to that is interactivity. With the gaming consoles of the past, the joystick was the only accessory that was used in playing almost all video games of yesterday. Today, most of the video game systems require more than just the joystick and the monitor that we used when we were younger. Today, there are other mediums and accessories introduced depending on which video game console you prefer. Besides using your fingers, most of today’s video games involve the use of arms and legs to be able to play the game properly.

The positive thing with this is that the player is now required to move more muscles and is not just seated and moving their fingers for a long period of time. He is active as he is executing various body movements for the sake of playing the video game that he prefers. In fact, Nintendo Wii even offers some video games that promote physical activities as well. This way, not only the player enjoys the game, but he is able to exercise his body at the same time.

Today’s video game systems are made more interactive, even the kids are very fond of playing them. Kids as young as 4 years old already know how to play video games. What makes it more interesting is the fact that the graphics are very eye-catching. More and more audiences from different generations have become more interested in playing. They use them as part of their entertainment, playing with their friends or playing while bonding with children.

Most of these video game systems are user friendly so that even a 4 year old can understand how to use them. Parents should be cautious with what games their kids are playing by making sure that they are suitable for their age. Games which show violence should not be played by younger kids because it may affect their way of life later on. Obviously, these games are not intended to harm or pollute someone mind. Even though these games are created not for the purpose of introducing violence, but mainly for entertainment purposes, still, parents should be responsible enough by controlling which games are appropriate and not appropriate for their children.
